My name is Cara Lily and I’m a Nutrition Advisor. I grew up in East London and throughout my childhood and teen years I was overweight. While I was physically active; taking part in dance classes, trampoline lessons, swimming lessons, horse riding lessons and P.E. sessions, I was a very fussy eater with a diet consisting of cheese, chocolate, fish fingers and bananas (not all in the same meal).
When I was 17, I was diagnosed with Polycystic Ovary Syndrome (PCOS). Through researching the condition, I learnt that nutrition plays a significant role in managing the symptoms. So I designed my own nutrition plan and as a result, I have lost over 3 stone in weight and a recent ultrasound scan showed that my ovaries are no longer polycystic.
While I managed to lose some weight, I constantly struggled with a bloated and distended stomach and sluggish energy levels. I was tested for intolerances and discovered that I was suffering from some intolerances including gluten. After eliminating these from my diet, I lost more weight, gained more energy and finally started to get that flatter stomach I desired.
This sparked a passion for nutrition and fitness and I have since qualified as a REPs Level 3 Personal Trainer and gained diplomas in Advanced Nutrition, Sports Nutrition, Diet and Weight Loss Management and Child Nutrition.
As well as still taking part in dance, trampolining and swimming, I took up gymnastics at the age of 22 and contortion/flexibility training at the age of 24. I also developed a keen interest in these sports in the elite world and I’m always looking out for live competitions on TV.
I am now training at the College of Naturopathic Nutrition (CNM) in order to become a fully qualified Naturopathic Nutritionist.
I believe quite strongly that nutrition can help everybody, no matter what their circumstances are so I blog about food and healthy living.
